Did anyone go to see legendary Italian band Goblin play back in 2012 at Melbourne Town Hall? If you did, you’d remember how grand it was, with attendees gushing about the huge grand organ which their magical show revolved (not literally) around.

Good news for people who love big old majestic organs and Hey Hey It’s Saturday (wait, I’ll explain..) – City Of Melbourne are putting on their annual “Get Organ-ised” event starring that same grand organ!
It’s on Monday 13th March and it’s an all day (11am-5.30pm) all-ages affair featuring a range of free activities, including guided backstage tours of the Grand Organ, a concert showcasing Victoria’s finest emerging concert organists, and a guided open-access session allowing you (yes YOU) a chance to play the living legend.

As if that’s not enough (here’s where the Hey Hey reference comes in)…Australian TV/radio voice-over legend John Blackman (Hey Hey It’s Saturday, Magic 1278, 3AW) will also perform a live narration of Bram Stoker’s spooky classic Dracula, with a live soundtrack performed on the Grand Organ by organ master Brendon Lukin.

THE John Blackman!

DID I MENTION THAT IT’S FREE?

Wanna hear how great the organ sounds? I found this clip on youtube from the Brian Jonestown Massacre gig…(start the clip at 0.42 to get to the good stuff)…
